Yet, I asked…

Although I stopped believing long ago
To the Virgin Mary and her son I pleaded
Kneeling, I looked straight at their painting
With an open and confident heart

Aware that things do happen for a reason
Not so ready to accept what it is
Not so sure of my will to keep trying

I didn’t pray
I didn’t promise
But I asked…
Even though I was a nonbeliever

Childhood memories brought me back to them…
An urgent need to regain my faith
In life
In love
In the one I was
In the one I am

To this sacred place I came
Searching for the child I was
Devoid of labels or boundaries
That just trusted without asking why
That had faith no matter what

I had to be back home
Embracing and expressing the commotion within
To hug my inner child
To take back harmony
To make peace with what it is

My plea

During winter time
I long for what is not
Howling to the moon
For I was left alone

I plea to the cold wind
To freeze my heart
Until the next spring
To be awakened by the dandelions
And then fly away…

Legacy

Clumsy hands moving up and down
Haunted fingertips infinitely counting
For every pearl a tear dropped
For every tear a pearl counted

Memories attached
Feelings concealed
Plenty to reveal

Symbol of purity and renovation
A continuous prompt to be sincere
An urge to remain dignified
A push to keep searching for happiness

The perfect gift she has ever received
From the one she will always grieve

Magpie 38

“Hi, I’m back!” she said looking at Annie’s face with relief. The lack of answer didn’t bother her at all, and without an invitation, she sat at the edge of the stone and then resumes the conversation.
“She kicked me out of the house again, this is the third time she’s done that” - she pauses and after taking a deep breath continues saying - “I don’t know what to do, I’m tired of fighting! I don’t know how long I will be able to stay strong…” the tone of her voice reveals the emotional distress she is going through.

A warm and tender breeze kisses her cheek and hair as if trying to ease her sorrows. The silence is only broken by the birds singing from a nearby cypress tree. Looking directly into Annie’s eyes, she asks - “Why does she hate me so much? Why can’t she love me the same way she loves my brothers? What did I do wrong?” - with anger she fights the tears trying to show up on her face, as crying is not permitted on a strong girl like her.
“Yesterday, despite the rain and the cold she locked me out of the house and probably got soundly asleep in a few minutes, with no concern for my well-being. I heard one of my brothers trying to plead with her, but then gave up as he was almost shown the way out too. After an hour of crying out and kicking the door with no results I headed to Tory’s house, she always offers me shelter. But you have to see her face, she can’t hide the compassion she feels for me….” - Her brown eyes can’t disguise the sadness apprehending her, which contradicts the hard expression of her face. Her eyes are the window to her soul while her face is a well learned masquerade to conceal her real feelings.

She is only fourteen but looks older than she really is, years of suffering and emotional abuses have made a dent in her. She is being considered a wild and aggressive child by her schoolmates and teachers, making it so difficult for her to have any friends. Loneliness is her only companion, but sometimes the aloneness becomes too heavy to abide, so she comes to see Annie and the others for companionship and conversation. They always listen and never charge or criticize her, but she misses some kind of advice or guidance from them, after all, they have lived longer and had more experience. She knows there is nothing she can do to halt their unbreakable silence, but she is consoled but the inner knowledge that they listen and care.
“Today, Tory told me that my mother can’t continue doing this to me, that she is breaking the law and that the authorities can take me away from her. She wants to report her, so my mother can start taking better care of me. I begged her not to do it, because I’m afraid I may be sent to an orphanage… You know, my mom keeps telling me she will do it and I believe her.” She pauses and takes a deep breath in, as if trying to grow bigger and stronger. She doesn’t want to start crying, if she does, then she may never be able to stop, so she keeps breathing deep until the urge to cry is fully controlled.

After a while she speaks again, “Tory felt sorry for me so she promised not to do it this time, but she will if my mother does it again. The problem is that I know I will be kicked out again; any mistake will be used by my mother as a pretext to fight me, she will not stop until I’m gone… She did the same to my older brother, she kicked him out of the house when he was just thirteen, and never allowed him to come back.
I have nowhere to go, if she kicks me out again I will have to sleep by the door, despite the weather conditions and the time I have to spend outside. That will be the only way to fight her back, she will have to take me in sooner or later, as she will not want the neighbors to tell my stepfather what she is doing to me…” she looks around and after a short silence she asks: “Annie, did your mother love you or was she like mine? Aren’t mothers supposed to care and tender for their children? Why doesn’t she love me? I really want to know…” – as expected she doesn’t get any answer, but that doesn’t bother her as she is feeling better. Being able to talk about her troubles really eases her sorrow.
She keeps looking at Annie’s face, as if searching for answers, then she says - “Ok, is getting late, I must start heading back to hell. Today my stepfather is getting back home, so my mother will pretend this never happened, instead she will complain about how much she had to do and how unhelpful and disobedient I am. After all, this is part of her master plan to get rid of me one day!” - Saying that, she slowly began to rise up from the stone that she was sitting on, she then bends so as to be able to reach Annie’s picture and kiss her goodbye. “Annie, do you think she will ever love me or care for me?”
She doesn’t wait for an answer, once again she breaths in deeply and slowly, filling herself with strength and willpower, the one she will need to face her mother’s rage. Then with determination she starts walking away from Annie’s grave and the ones around her, until she gets out of the cemetery.
………

Over twenty years have passed, and I still remember my afternoons at the local graveyard, the only place I used to feel at home. During that time I seriously contemplated the idea of joining my dead friends as an easy way to escape, but I guess my warrior spirit keep me from doing it.
I was told so many times and even read in many books that the people that harm us the most are the ones that teach us the most too. I believe that is true but sometimes it is still hard to digest, especially if the people who hurt you are your closest relatives.
From a physical level, I still feel the pain and the emotional abandonment, while the same question still bothers me sometimes: “Why doesn’t she love me?”
From a spiritual level I do appreciate the teachings that help me to become who I’m today, the challenge was rough but I had managed. Today I’m free and full of love, I have learnt to love myself just the way I am and to love the rest of the world the same way, just the way they are… including her!

Be and let be

Mirror, mirror of my soul
Please tell me why you howl
Every time I look at you

Why are you playing games with me?
I dislike what you reveal
Please reflect only nice things
Just the ones I like to see

Mirror, mirror of my soul
Let’s create a better world
Just by changing our approach
When reflecting what we see

Let’s get undressed
Throw away our prejudices
Tear up intolerance
Erase discrimination
Don’t stop until we are naked

Mirror, mirror of my soul
Why did you stop reflecting?

Poetry and I

Whispers of the soul
Chanting of the heart
Tribulations of the mind
Guide my fingers to write
Open up, don’t be afraid
Everything will be OK

Transmuting feelings into words
Letting them go and be
Clearing the foliage of my being
Tenderly falling like autumn leaves
Landing on my fingertips
Who in trance, dance and type
Without asking why

An open heart, bleeding feelings
An egocentric mind playing drama games
A juggling soul offering light
Writing poems is their thing
For they do it as a team
Being fair to what each feels

Finding contenment

Maria’s heart howls in pain, resentment and a bunch of contradictory emotions. An injured heart can be unreasonable sometimes and lead to do things that may later cause regrets and more pain. Emotional wounds need to bleed, clearing out all the poisoning feelings, draining away bitterness and rage. Writing allows her to express her emotions without causing any collateral damage.

She is aware that clarity is essential before acting, as emotional reactions take away the chance to grow and learn. So, she freely lets her fingers do the typing without asking or judging; quietly attempting to read in between the lines of the dropping tears from her disappointed heart.

It is hard to hold the need to retort, to control the call to reign over the offender, it's like going against human nature and willingly surrendering to the circumstances.

She compares her situation with an oil lamp, where her emotions are the oil burning the wick, at first they burst almost out of control, but once that piece of wick has scorched and is cut off, the emotional flame becomes steady. Gradually wrath is being replaced by understanding; things become clear as the light of acceptance is turned on.

A peaceful smile illuminates her face as she realizes once again that even in the darkest of times one can find contentment, if one remembers to turn on the light.

"Your feelings will never get you into "trouble," because your feelings are your truth. If you want to live a life where every feeling is filtered through the machinery of your Mind, go right ahead. But don't look for joy in such machinations, nor for celebration of Who You Are" -Neale Donald Walsch

Father Time

Tell me; oh tell me my dear
What I want to hear!
Come, come near
Can you see my tear?

Whispers in my ear
Things I don’t want to hear
Truths I fear
Matters that aren’t clear

Stop, stop… please don’t disappear
I will try to be sincere
So please reappear
and tell me all about yesteryear

Why are you too severe?
I’m not acting weird!
I’m full of revere
And not at all insincere

I know you will persevere
Until I’m convinced there isn’t any frontier
Tell me; oh tell me my dear
What I don’t want to hear!
But don’t jeer

I did hear what I fear
I did clear my tear
You have been sincere
but please disappear…

Promise

I stare at you from afar,
Like a thief I hide and survey
I wonder how happy you truly are
I muse how devoted you really are
I ponder how you can live like that...

Without a thought I walked away from my hiding place
No longer aware that I may be seen
I get closer to the window that is keeping you away
Looking through and devouring your image
Hating the disguising clothes hiding your exquisite figure

With rebel tears running through my face
I hold my urge to call your name
I’m no longer begging, imploring or pleading
I’m done with all that!

I’m going away
Leaving you in my past
and by no means, coming back

But then again I know I should return
To steal a glance every Thursday at noon
when you are by the window praying to your God
while sending your forbidden love to me

You kept your promise
But I can’t keep mine
The pain and loneliness is unbearable
knowing that we will never be together

You chose your God
I just choose my freedom…

Thwarted

… And that is what she did for the very last time in her earthy life… she bit an apple before choking to dead…
What a derisive way to die… so simple, so unexpected and so unbelievable. She didn’t even like apples at all, but had gotten this one to eat while trying to swallow the idea that her name wasn’t appearing anymore in the magazine… that it wasn’t a nightmare but the unbearable truth… someone else was the Editor of her magazine, someone else had taken her life away.
She looks down at her laying body, resting in a comical position, and then she pays attention to her blue face with wide open eyes, a pathetic portrait of someone gotten by surprise. What a depressing way to die… totally out of place for a sophisticated woman like her. She should have died surrounded by drama and glamor, with much more excitement and sense of risk… but there she was choked to death by a mere unattractive apple. "What will people say? That she couldn’t afford caviar and champagne for breakfast anymore; that she was finished and broke".
With relief she realizes that she isn’t alive anymore, that she will not have to face their mocks, humiliations and sniggers. She will not be there to hear them saying: “The Iron Queen was killed by an apple… a simple, unappealing apple…hahaha!”

All of a sudden she begins to laugh, so loud, so unreservedly, and so freely that she started to choke again… “But wait a minute! How can she be choking if she is already dead? Something isn’t making sense”. Suddenly her line of thoughts is being interrupted by a deep and sharp pain in her chest. She feels the need to breathe again, to fill her lungs with a big gulp of pure, rich and tasteful air, so she does…
The nausea and pain are overwhelming; she is breathing with difficulty and can hardly hear what people say around her. She takes a few minutes to compose herself, but as soon as she does, Ambrosia wants to drop dead once again... everybody is looking at her with sadness and concern, feeling sorry for her. The shame is too much to handle it with class, so she fakes to faint and then keeps her eyes tightly closed until the paramedics place her in the ambulance for further treatment.

How can she choke in the restaurant of one of the most exclusive hotels, exposed and threatened in front of the most important business people! She doesn’t want to even imagine how awkward she should have looked when “that somebody” was performing CPR on her while attempting to save her life… Gosh, she’d rather be dead than alive… the shame is too much indeed.

Home, sweet home

Home, sweet home
All I ever dream for and beyond
Heart pounding, pulse rising
Contentment overwhelming the being

A sense of peace
The wonder of believing
that dreams do come true
The astonishment of seeing
that they really do

Once again I’m a small child
with wide open eyes
sparkling and shining like two stars
on the open sky of my happy face

A free spirit, a dreamer, a believer
Devoid of past and future
Honoring the present
Enjoying the magic jiffy
Counting blessings
Accepting the good

Home, sweet home
It is nice to be home

Playing along

She is fed up, sick and tired, ready to give up… How on earth is she going to stop people from breaking in into her small flower shop? They never steal anything, they just force the lock, place a few things out of place and then go… Her instincts tell her that the teenagers of the neighborhood have something to do with it. But she can’t prove it and therefore there is nothing she can do.

At the beginning she used to call the police almost every day, she even convinced the Chief police to assign a police patrol to guard her shop one night. But the old fat police man assigned to the task was sound asleep before the moon was fully up… The following morning when she found the door unlocked and try to show it to him, he tried to convince her that she left it open. They argued for almost two hours, till the chief got tired of both of them and started shouting like crazy. He said so many things and used so many improper words that, she blushes even now by just remembering them.

This incident spoils her days, no matter how happy she is, as soon as she reaches to the shop and finds the place unlocked, her day is immediately ruined. She tried changing the locks, from the very simple ones to the very sophisticated ones, but in spite of the changes, they still manage to break in…

Being a woman of action, someone who has faced so many challenges, she wasn’t going to allow a foolish game to get into her nerves, so she decided to get the bull by its horns and deal with the problem the best she could.
First of all, she had to accept the facts and get ready to swallow the reality - whether she liked it or not, she was on her own! Someone was messing up with her, playing games, trying to get something out of it. Then the best she could do is to play along and give them a taste of their own medicine, at least she could have a bit of fun with the whole situation.
The guy from the hardware shop couldn’t understand when she asked him to install six totally different locks on the shop door. He tried to explain several times that the high number of locks will not stop the guys from breaking in, it would just take them a bit longer, that’s it…
But she was secretly smiling, enjoying in advance the fruits of her master plan…

So the previous evening, she took her time closing each and every lock on her shop door. She closed one, stopped to look around, paused, secretly smiled and then proceeded to close the other one… and like a ritual she carried on in exactly the same way with each and every one of the six looks on the door.

Now as she approaches the door, she can hardly control the excitement, the adrenaline, the dry test of her mouth… her heart is bumping fast and her face is a transparent portray of the joy overwhelming her.
She stands and observes the locks, she can see the familiar marks of breaking in attempts. One of the locks is even a bit broken… with a trembling hand she reaches the door handle and slowly unlocks it and then gently pushes the door open, but the door refuses… so she tries again but a bit harder… once again the doors remains closed...

Without caring about what others may say, she started laughing, dancing and jumping, unable to control her happiness. She did it, she managed to outdo the fools and she did it with their own medicine, by pulling a joke…

The previous day, she didn’t lock all the locks, she only locked every other one, so the one that was trying to pick the locks was always locking three… HAHAHAHA and the best part of all is that she picked the idea from an Elayne Boosler show, after listening to one of her jokes.

© 2010 Gabriela Abalo

I got the inspiration to write this short story from a joke I read from Elayne Boosler... "I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three."

Empty

Every day at daybreak she gets out of her double bed and slowly walks around it to the other side. Once there, she mechanically opens the bed, sits at the edge of the mattress, raises her legs and lies down. Slowly she slides her feet in-between the cold silky sheets, immediately her warm body starts to tremble, instinctively reacting to the chilly sheets.
After getting in, she takes almost a minute to find a comfortable position, she turns to one side, then to the other, curls herself in and then stretches out; in no longer than five minutes she is sound asleep and smiling…

At 7:30 am the alarm clock began to play a tender melancholic melody. Antonia opens one eye, then another, a few seconds later she gives a lethargic glance to the diffuse early morning light coming through her bedroom window… a bright smile dresses her pretty face as she happily greets the new day. With laziness she stretches out her arms and legs covering up the whole bed… the coldness of the other side of the bed suddenly bring her back to the cruel reality…
She has to force herself to slowly turn her face to the side, the emptiness and loneliness of the other side overwhelms her with sadness. Suddenly her morning happiness evaporates, her expression abruptly transforms, given place to a harsh looking face that has no resemblance with the one that woke up five minutes ago…

Who can be playing such cruel jokes? How can someone be so malicious? What is that person trying to get from her?
A thousand questions outdo her thoughts, leaving her confused and annoyed. She can’t call the police again, they don’t believe her. They keep saying that she is making it up, that she must go for some therapy, that she is still mourning his passing…
But how can she be grieving someone who betrayed her, who left her without any warning after all his promises. She isn’t mournful, she isn’t crazy, she doesn’t need any psychiatrist help, what she needs is the useless police to catch the son of a b@#@ that is messing up with her.

From the minute she met him, she knew he was too good to be true, as good things weren’t on her life menu. Antonia was familiar to betrayals and desertions, her very own mother taught her very well about that. But, she thought God had given her a break when she met Alejandro. So she stupidly put her fences down allowing him to get into her fragile heart, believing that for the very first time in her very painful life she was going to experience love to its fullest. But, what she didn’t know and never expected was that it was going to last only two years…
Why did he have to go to pick the stupid flowers to surprise her? She didn’t need early flowers in the morning, she needed him, his smiling face waking up next to her, his tender arms hugging and protecting her, his masculine scent overwhelming her and getting deep into her skin. But he insisted that it wasn’t enough, that she deserves much more and he wanted to give everything to her.
He forgot the most important… he forgot to stay and instead got killed. An accident, a stupid accident took the love of her life away… now all that is left is an empty bed, in an empty bedroom of an empty house of an empty woman…

From the bedroom door she looks at the empty bed… both sides undone as if two people slept in it… “Maybe Alejandro comes every night to sleep with her” she says to herself, but then she erases that stupid thought, she doesn’t believe in ghosts, she only believes in what she can see and touch.
Today she is going to change all the doors locks once again, she’s going to fight back, she isn’t going to allow anybody to mess around with her. She is a warrior with strong armor and immune to warm feelings.

Antonia looks once more to the empty bed, seeing everything in black and white, she isn’t aware that since Alejandro passed away she doesn’t see colors any more…

Wolf-peaches love

At a tender age I used to believe that
Love was like wolf-peaches...
Luscious
Poisonous in a palatable package
Bright, shiny and very suspicious
Planted as a curiosity but not to be eaten
Just a bite was enough to kill an innocent heart

As I was maturing I started to muse about
Love ups and downs,
The superstitions and protective beliefs
All just fences of skeptical hearts

Now, I have come to learn, that
time and experiences usually turn evil into blessings,
wolf-peaches into tomatoes,
suspicious into believers
fears into freedom

Last but not least
I have accepted, digested and assimilated
That no matter what…
I’m in love with you!

Pssst… It’s never too late! That is what you used to say.

Am I late? If I am not, then you know where to find me… I will be waiting on the last Wednesday of August between 11am and 1pm.

He looks at the postcard, up and down, back and forth, searching for any hidden clues that can answer the questions bothering him from the minute he read the card that the postman delivered to him just a few minutes before…

Why did she send him a tomato postcard with such bizarre proclamation of love?

Maurice can hardly control his astonishment and the rush of anger overwhelming him. He knows very well she likes to play games with him, keeping him guessing of what could happen next.
Paula hates routine and is madly in love with change. She is a free spirit and traveler searching for answers, while enjoying every inch of life. Maurice fell in love with all that and much more; she was the perfect gasp of fresh air in his perfect-controlled life.

Like a tornado without previous notice she entered into his life, twisting all around and then vanishes leaving a mess behind. Without warning of any type she just packed and left. All she said before leaving was: “It was fun while it lasted, I have to go, commitment scares me…”

Who the heck does she think she is! Does she assume he is so desperately in love with her, to leave everything behind and go on an unplanned trip to Valencia – Spain! How is he supposed to find her in a place flooded with thousands of people throwing tomatoes to each other like bonkers?
Life isn’t so simple, things have to be planed! Spontaneity isn’t his thing… but then he finally understands… that is why Paula left him, everything in his life was predictable and organized. This was her final test; this was his very last chance. Maurice began to laugh as he had never done it before, with freedom and release.

Firecrackers

It was time to pack her things away, the grieving period was over. They all needed to move on with their lives and holding onto her belongings wasn’t helping at all.
She placed some boxes on top of her grandma’s bed and after taking a deep breath she heads towards the old Chinese closet.

Her grandma loved Chinese things, everything in her home was from China – fake or original… it didn’t matter as long as the label said: MADE IN CHINA. Everyone in the family used to make fun of her China mania. She has never been in China, did not have any family or past connected to that country. She was very tall, blond and with striking green eyes. She and her house were a total mismatch that kept taking people by surprise. Many kept expecting to see a Chinese coming out any time, but all they saw was grandma and her Irish husband…
Grandma with her crazy and unusual personality was the life and soul of the entire family and neighborhood. She was someone who always looked for the bright side of things, it didn’t matter how bad things could be since she never gave up and always managed to bring hope and strength back to the most desperate.

Amelia is trying hard to keep her tears out of view, grandma didn’t want anyone to cry for her, she wanted to be remember exactly the way she was… full of life and optimism. She kept saying that passing was just another chapter in everybody’s journey. It was the graduation of the soul, moving from the physical field to the ethereal one… she believed in the afterlife and refused to get attached to anything… even life. When the time was right she was ready to cross over and move on… so she expected nothing less from the ones closest to her.
The first thing Amelia sees as soon as she opens one of the bottom drawers is the box containing the old Chinese firecrackers, and immediately a big smile brightened her face as she remembers how she loved to tease her grandma with silly questions about her love affair with Chinese things, her grandma always had a right answer on hand…
“Grandma… why do you keep these old firecrackers? I’m sure they don’t work anymore, so what’s the point?”
“They keep me safe!” - Grandma used to quickly answer, and then she started to further elaborate her reply to educate her misinformed granddaughter …
“Firecrackers were used in old China to scare away unwanted animals and evil spirits. During the Lunar New Year the Chinese used it to scare away a unicorn called Nian, firecrackers were the only thing that the evil creature was scared of… its bursting bamboo was too much for it to handle. If Nian ran away the people were assured of a prosperous and happy new year.”
“Do you want to know how are they made?”
And without waiting for an answer she kept saying: “It is a plain paper tube, folded tightly closed at the bottom that is loaded with black powder and a fuse, folded tightly closed at the head end. Then the finished cracker fuses are neatly braided together, and each completed flat bundle is wrapped with colorful paper to make it more attractive.
Your grandpa gave those to me long ago… so I could be safe when he was away.
Firecrackers scare evils away, that’s why I keep them…”

Amelia misses her grandma and can’t hold any longer her sorrows. So she let go and cried without holding anything… she knows that grandma is looking and smiling… as always, she understands.

Life is good

Finding it was unexpected; he had forgotten it still existed and was taken aback by the power it still holds on him…
A simple toothbrush, a plain boring useless one … but to him it used to be much more than that.
Brown, cheap, made out of plastic, a fake ergonomic left-handed version that didn’t fit his hand and the depression of his thumb as many of the really good ones do. He had to keep repositioning the toothbrush in his hands every time he changed from brushing one side of his mouth to the other, so as to reach all the surfaces of his teeth.
The dilemmas he used to have every time he used this toothbrush: Do I go against the handle shape or do I rotate my grip on the handle… That was the “question”!

The damn toothbrush didn’t have any advantage over others. It wasn’t even small enough when compared with the conventional ones, his mouth was small so he usually found it uncomfortable to use big brushes when brushing his molars.

With resentment he remembers very well how happy he was the day he bought this toothbrush, the advertisement and the sales person bewitched him with awesome promises: “Super-smile 45° Ergonomic Toothbrush” – Brush your teeth at the proper angle without bogus bells and whistles! “Ha, ha, ha, haaaaa…” Is his answer to all those lies, none of what was promised was true; the toothbrush was everything but that! – Bitterness fills his mouth, so he swallows the saliva with difficulty and annoyance.
After a few seconds he smiles, joyfully enjoying his revenge… he found a new love… just a hundred meters away from his flat… at the local supermarket. Just in time to guarantee the greatest, healthiest and brightest smiles a ship’s Captain of his category should have. So, the day he boarded his ship he did it with pride and stature, showing everybody his best smile. Life has been great ever since; the last two weeks were amazing, no disappointments or regrets of any type. Now he is at peace and fulfilled, smiling all the way, felling fresh and clean. No more hand position dilemmas, no more thumb unfitting troubles! Life was good again…

His new brush was designed for comfortable brushing with soft multi-level bristles. This one has a rounded-end, polished bristles specifically designed to protect the enamel and gums. The curved bristles fitted perfectly the contours of his teeth and its small head reached effectively all the hard-to –reach places. It also has a non-slip rubber grip that kept the brush snug in his hand for better control.
Life was indeed good again!

With determination and without hesitation he grabs the damn toothbrush and then, almost violently he opens the head’s porthole … after a small hesitant pause – to enjoy the moment – he throws the brush as far as his strong arm lets him. With joy he observes the brush disappearing in the Atlantic Ocean, with the certainty that this was the very last time he was going to see the damn toothbrush…

A wild smile illuminates his dark eyes when he turns back to the sink where his new love is awaiting for him. With tenderness he grabs his new toothbrush and with perfect precision he places the exact right amount of toothpaste required for a perfect tooth brushing.

Life is indeed good again…

Fate

A razor… two tales
One as the cutting blade of a thrilling thieve
The other as the master tool of a great chef
Both in France

Blade’s tales
Of taste and passion
Offering to the gods
To Ambrosia the food
To Hades the blood

A foolish love
A selfish passion
Razor blade cutting the edge
of two worlds
of two obsessions
of two souls
enslaved by fervor

Such was the razor’s fate
but to execute it masters desires
Just a tool
just a contrivance
With no other choice
but to perform
and then evoke
the memories imbibed on its blade
from each cut
from each act
of passion and fate

Unveiled

She kept looking and looking at the stone bust. Despite all her efforts she couldn’t stop staring at it. The face’s expression was too compelling and distressful to be ignored. She has been working at the Museum for almost twenty years; her restoration work was well known around the world, as she has successfully restored many great and valuable pieces.

She did her work with pleasure, treating each piece with profound respect and veneration. Each piece of art was unique, as each one has a story to tell, a message to pass, an emotion to show, a legacy to preserve and a culture to represent.
Maria didn’t take her work lightly, one little mistake and a whole world will be destroyed…

Whenever she was restoring she moved into trance, doing the connection with the different artists and allowing their spirits to take over her body, so they could guide her hands and senses throughout the whole restoration process. The connection was so strong that she was able to experience the emotions that drove them to create their pieces, sensing their muses, their quandaries and dramas.
But this time Maria is afraid of working with this woman’s bust, she can’t stop thinking about the images she saw the time she attempted to make the connection. She is still shivering and horrified of what was unveiled while in trance.

The bust was the resting nest of many phantoms from the past – it contained the ghosts of many women that were murdered by its artist. It took sixteen of them until he could carve and shape the right expression of astonishment and shock of a person the second after the final breath….

The journey

Tired but excited
After walking and walking
Never stopping
Just moving and moving

Tapping with changes
Jumping into opportunities
Running after love
Tiptoeing into the unknown

The journey isn’t over
A story is being written
Moment after moment
Step by step
While walking and walking
