I complained about my job day after day, but did nothing to make it interesting or look for a new one.
I complained about my shape and size, but I didn’t eat healthier nor did any exercise.
I complained about not having enough money to do everything I wished for, but did nothing to do what I could, with what I got.
I complained about my friends, but didn’t try to love them they same way they loved me nor did I try to nourish our friendship.
I complained about you and me, but did nothing to appreciate what we had.
I complained about so many things, but did nothing else than just complain about everything
Now I’m complaining for complaining and doing nothing else than complain…
I’m depressed, jobless, loveless, moneyless and weightless!
I lost weight and changed my shape, not because I’m eating better or doing any exercise, but because I have little to eat and have to walk most of the time.
Money is still a problem, but now is a bigger one, without the job I can’t even complain about doing nothing with the little I used to have… since even that little is gone.
My love is gone, my job is gone and my money is gone… Damn, I never thought I could miss them that much!
Now I’m complaining for complaining and doing nothing else than complain…
But the most disappointing of all, is that I can’t even complain, as I know that for complaining too much I’m where I’m!

This is indeed a wake up call!! We are used to this in most cases in life, I think sometimes just complaining for the sake of it, or perhaps for fear of challenges and because of laziness. The results of complaints without action and eventually evident, that one finds him/herself worse off.
Hey, is that not just what complaining is? a waste of time and energy. Have you not seen that most of the time you complain, you do it to the wrong people. If only we could put the same energy in butto the correct people then we would be complaining.
I see your point about complaining and about the need to get off our butts and do something, but it sure helps to have friends who don't judge our negative responses to life's detours. This is a quote my mother had on her fridge for years:
Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away. ~ Dinah Craik
I guess this is kind of what we do with our blog buddies.
@Edward,
Sometimes complaining is used as a tool to excuse ourselves from trying something different. Many times we prefer to play the victim instead of taking charge of our life.
But on the other hand: how nice it is sometimes to have something to complain about, it reminds us that we are alive!

Complaining is a waste of energy if all we do is to complain and do nothing else. But complaining is also a way to realize what makes us unhappy and therefore gives us the chance to change it - the change can be our attitude toward things (by appreciating things for what they are) or moving towards something else, the ultimate decision is always ours.
@Kass,
thank you for sharing the quote, it is very wise indeed.
I intentionally took the character to the extreme, just to see what a person can achieve if all she/he does is complain about everything and do nothing else about it. In this story the character lost his friends not for complaining to them, but because he complained so much about them that he forgot to keep in touch ;-)

Dear Gabi, that ’s so interesting, one day when you can’t complain, you’d miss the complain it self also! So when want to complain then complain buy know complain can’t help anything! The life is bitter to someone’s eyes but to the one who chose to taste the sweet , the life is sweet too, for me I complained often but as I ‘m complaint I ‘d laught and think: how nice I still can complain this tiny thing!

i do not like people that complain and complain and never stop complaining… always nugging about something..
these people prefer complaining rather than finding a solution, and in the end they can suck like leeches all your energy if you try to help them/listen to them
Thank you Gabi for bringing this to attention..

I truly believe there are people who are "happy" to complain, that wouldn't know how to live if they didn't have complaints. I pity them, but I also keep that perspective when they launch into yet another litany of complaints.
My father had a saying, "I used to complain that I had no shoes, until I met a man with no feet."
So whenever I encounter a complainer, I usually quote Dad. It could always be worse! :)
*and talk about ironic, the verification code is pater*
Annie, I think it's their way to get some attention and run away from taking responsibility. People that complain a lot are usually pessimists and they tend to suck the energy of others. I try to respond to them with positive observations, with special emphasis on their blessings - some take it positive, while others hate me for not supporting their drama.
Complaining is something that we all do, which is ok as long as it doesn't control us.

Kim, I come from a family of pessimists, were they manage to see the negative side of everything no matter what. So, I apply to them your Dad's saying while enumerating all their blessings -- I think because of that is that they don't like me very much ;-)

Dear Gabi,
A nice reminder to be happy for all the blessings we have, which are many.

It is very true how we love to complain, even about the smallest most irrelevant things. Instead of celebrating the many awesome things that are going on in our lives and the lives of those closest to us. Thanks for the pleasant reminder that we need to 'hang loose' and celebrate life the gifts that are handed to us each day.
Yes, we complain about so many things and carry out no remedial action against those things we complain about. Complaining ends up becoming part of our system. Ithink its not even useful to complain but rather act to prevent the things that may cause us to complain.

It’s always better to count our blessings instead of our sorrows. Focusing on the good things gives us the strength to continue enjoying life.

Gabi - I read in the comments on John's blog that you are changing careers soon. Congratulations! I escaped the corporate world of real estate and became a massage therapist 7 years ago. I do my own energy work. I can't really call it Reiki. I received the Reiki attunements, but I do an assimilation of Cranio/Sacral and natural instincts channeled from universal energy. I know you will be great at this, as you are already great as a writer and photographer. Best wishes!
This is a great reminder. So many of my conversations with friends are totally complaint fests and pity parties.
Thank you dear Kass for your encouragement. For me it is time to leave my comfort zone in order to pursuit some of my childhood dreams.

Thank you Judy,
No-one can say is complain free, as we all do so, once in a while. But as everything else in life, if it is taken to the extreme then it becomes a problem.
