I

Stubborn as I am
Obstinate as I may appear to be
Determined to just be
Inflexible to restrain

Rarely looking back
Unconcerned of tomorrow
Forever in the now

Mischievous with rules
Impishly laughing to the “I”
Adventurously defying the “am”
Daringly trying out

Frightening sometimes
Intimidating from time to time
Constantly changing
Eternally living
Perpetually reinventing the “I”
Always embracing the “am”

determined to just be is certainly the spirit of this piece, brimming with energy like a child growing into his body.

I like this. I like the use of "I am" os a centering device, and it helps propel the poem forward. Nice one.

this is beautiful
...Rarely looking back
Unconcerned of tomorrow
Forever in the now...
just how we should live our lives
also like the ending - the I embracing the am - that's very creative!

I like it! I love: «Perpetually reinventing the “I”
Always embracing the “am”» maybe it is my goal.

Be in the moment...simply be...don't spend life worrying of the future, or consumed by the past. Beautiful sentiments.

I love this. You have described something so powerful in a child. If one has a child like this, one should do everything possible to reinforce this strength of character. This was my daughter when she was young. She held on to that fierceness, that focus on NOW, that determination to BE. I truly believe it saved her life when she got breast cancer.

Your poem speaks to me on both levels of creating art and being. The illustration is so great too, depicting almost a quixotic determination artists require at least in part. Excellent.

For some reason, this made me think of the song, "I Am, I Said" by Neil Diamond. But your poem is better than those lyrics!

I like what you see when you look in the mirror. And I like the way you express it so freely.
