Don't "don't" me!

Don’t you dare put me down!
Don’t even try to tell me I can’t do it!
Don’t attempt to convince me I'm not good enough!
Don’t push me down!

Do tell me that I can turn every situation into an opportunity
Do show me that willpower and perseverance can take me places
Do have faith that I can make it and that the sky isn’t the limit
Do love me just the way I am…

But if you can’t do as I ask,
Don’t “don’t” me and let me be!

Some people just aren't content unless they're arguing for our limitations.

More often than not we are the ones limiting ourselves.
This post is about the tribulations of the self – it attempts to represent the struggle we have within ourselves when facing challenges.

Welcome to the blog and thank you for the compliments.
I have granted your wish…. You can now see the flag of Zambia on your blog. ;)

i was told, for most of my early life, by the people who were supposed to know these things, "you can't X" and "don't do Y." took me some time to figure out they were talking to themselves.

Ha! I said it just last night. "Don't hold me back people!!!" Hands on hips all piss piss. I meant it.

I agree with you, they do it to themselves…

“Happiness is an attitude. We either make ourselves miserable, or happy and strong. The amount of work is the same.” ~Francesca Reigler

So, there we are again - the secret to happiness is: ….. a positive attitude!

Hi Gabi,

Love the photograph, it goes so well with your poem. And you have spoken so eloquently, when we focus on what we can do, we can do anything.

Welcome back Sherry!
I love the picture, the girl expression is so powerful that it inspired me to write the post.
Her eyes show determination and willpower, two very important attributes of the self.
