I am

I am who I am and I am who I'm not…
A free spirit teasing life, challenging boundaries, breaking the rules…
Embracing individualism, celebrating differences…
In love with myself, in love with others

I am who I am and I am who I'm not
Part and parcel of the same energy
Experimenting, remembering, experiencing, living…

I am who I am and I am who I'm not
Heart-broken, distant, shameless, distracted
Feeling, tasting, sensing… touching
A warrior of light
A warrior of love

I am who I am and I am who I'm not
Emotional, passionate, avid… alive
Unfussy, playful, naughty

I am one and I am all
I am

Cat: thank you for stopping by. I wanted to write this poem for a long time. We are who we are and we are who we aren’t … we are one and all! The secret of freedom and human peace

Badger: I love the quote from Whitman! Thank you for sharing.

Leenah: thank you for stopping by, I’m happy to know you enjoyed the last post.

Ed: A pleasure to have you back by the blog and thank you for sharing such beautiful worlds – spectrum, range, human, divine – I just love it!

I love the repetition for emphasis. I love how you show that it’s both who you are and who you are not that make a person. Wonderful poem.

All of us have so many layers, huh? huh :). Nice.

Beautiful, inspiring and oh so profound...This is a wonderful poem, suffused with such a poignant philosophy, that, in life, the greatest challenge is accepting ourselves for who we are. And when we do, it truly is perfection.

Oh yes, you are. And you truly seem to know it. :)

Wonderful poem. It's one a lot of us could write (but not as well). I've wanted to write one similar that says, "...the people who love me, don't really know me....those who hate me don't really know me..." - yeh, I know, it needs work.

Robert: I am who I am and I am who I’m not – is one of my mantras in life. Something I shall not forget.

She Writes: that is what makes as unique and interesting ;)

Sam: until we love who we are (as we are) we will not be able to love the rest of the world as they are. The challenge of unconditional love…

RA: I’m working hard on it… this thing of self-love is challenging ;)

Kass: I love your poetry; keep working on the poem, I really liked : the people who love me don’t really know me… those who hate me don’t really know me…
You can continue by saying: I don’t really know the people I love… I don’t really know the people I hate… Who are they? …. Who am I?....
Keep writing dear Kass, let your soul sing the song of love.

I am who I am not???? I'm really thinking on this because a way I can make no sense of it. Then again, I AM indeed what I am not...the parts that really are not who I wish to be, but am. (that probably makes no sense, but hey...I'm still working on it.)

Beautifully written.
